News: Pres. Signs H-Care Insurance Mandate-212 Years Ago! - Paul J. O'Rourke - Open Salon

By John on March 29, 2010 10:31 AM | No Comments

All that Tea Bagger talk about how it's supposedly unconstitutional to mandate that people get health insurance? Yeah, um, tell that to the original "socialist" President, John Adams, who made all sailors - even the private company employed ones - sign onto the plan.

Seeing as he had some say into the original framing of the Constitution, I think he had a better sense of what is or is not constitutional than your average racist southerner. Right?

Newborn with heart defect is denied insurance coverage for pre-existing condition

By John on March 26, 2010 10:06 AM | No Comments

Want to know why this country needs health reform? This story says it all. Blue Cross/Blue Shield rejected a NEWBORN'S medical claim for a pre-existing condition. Says his father:

"How can he have a pre-existing condition if the baby didn't exist until now?"

Indeed. The insurance bastards also tried to refuse to add the baby because both parents were not covered by them. The family pays for insurance for their kids, but neither are covered.

The little guy had the surgery and is fine, though the family is likely to be buried in debt. But, hey, BCBS is gonna turn a profit this year. And that's what matters, right?

How we expect health reform to roll out

A nice check on how, what and when health care reform will come.

After Health Vote, Threats on Democrats - NYTimes.com

By John on March 25, 2010 9:49 AM | No Comments

A recap of the ongoing terror activities of the Tea Bag Traitors.

It isn't enough to whip your cohorts into breaking windows a la Kristallnacht. Said mouth breather is a member of an Alabama militia and is, of course, cashing government disability checks while railing against said government.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

There's even more hatred. Bart Stupak is putting up with really vile phone messages. CBS covers the tame ones with many of the more offensive ones in this bit on Rachel Maddow's show last night - along with other vile behavior.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Rep. Louise Slaughter has been informed that snipes are coming for her. She has already had the lives of her children threatened.

Rep. Russ Carnahan of Missouri had a coffin left outside his house. Nothing subtle there. Tea Bagging Traitors say it was left after a "prayer vigil". Hell, at best that's littering in poor taste. in reality it's a death threat.

Once again, these are the compassionate conservatives?

These cretins swear they aren't violent.

John McCain blows off the danger of his party's rhetoric, much like he did Palin's filth in 2008.

The NRCC says that threats against people's lives aren't a big deal.

There's a map tracking the violence. Hopefully it doesn't get any more additions.

As Maddow points out, much of this stupidity is driven by the GOP leadership itself.

Patrick Kennedy leaves note for Ted on gravesite: "Dad, the unfinished business is done."

By John on March 23, 2010 1:41 PM | No Comments

If only Ted Kennedy had lived long enough to see the health care bill pass. I doubt he'd have liked much of it but as a stepping stone to making America a better place, he'd have voted for it nonetheless. He's been on the mind of many in these closing days. Hopefully those hypocrites in the GOP who dared call him friend are choking on the bile their duplicity has churned.

By John on March 22, 2010 10:13 PM | No Comments

David Frum is a diehard conservative. He uses their talking points, their stupid names for honest legislation, and I probably would check outside before believing his assertions that the sky was blue.

But he isn't an idiot. Misguided, but not a fool.

So, when he reads the tea leaves over the end of the health care bill, it may behoove other conservatives to pay attention when he pronounces doom and gloom for the GOP.

For once, I hope he's right.

Racism, Homophobia Dominates Tea Party Protest Over Health Care Bill

By John on March 22, 2010 4:39 PM | No Comments
This is not a spontaneous uprising of disaffected citizens who are angry about bailouts. This is the base of the modern Republican party, same as it ever was.

- Digby on the Tea Party Racist Traitors

I'd love to say I'm surprised but I've lived in the South and in the rural Midwest. Racist Republicans are nothing new to me.

However, you used to find that the most vile woman-hating, minority-loathing, gay-bashing language was kept at home. Now it is out in the open. The secessionist bullshit is in the open. The violent revolution is on the table.

Why? Because they lost a couple elections. That's it. People, in the main, got tired of their lies and bullshit and voted a lot of Republicans out of office. Then, we the people, elected a black man president. And these cretins went insane.

You have a better explanation? Pop me an email, because nothing else looks plausible.

Our nation is progressing. Moving forward. We just now got a health insurance system that is on par with other free nations of the world. They got their's in the middle of the last century. We'll get a portion of our's in four years time. Progress. Kind of.

But this is horrible for the conservatives. Let's see what passes for compassion with them.

Reverting to time honored racism, calling black Congressmen "nigger". Spitting on Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver.

Talking Points Memo has a nice roundup on both the racial element, plus the blatant homophobia by calls of "faggot" directed at Rep. Barney Frank.

Once again, so "compassionate" these conservatives.

Here are Reps James Clyburn and Elijah condemning the Rethugs:

The Great Thing About the Health Care Law That Has Passed? It Will Save Republican Lives, Too (An Open Letter to Republicans from Michael Moore)

By John on March 22, 2010 4:04 PM | No Comments

Some tongue-in-cheekiness from Michael Moore on the passage of the Health Reform Bill.

Which brings me back to what I fervently believe. At least half of the folks that are gonna benefit from this are the tea bagging racists who have been screaming racial epithets and secession the whole time. I hope they can get their meds past the big ol' honking hypocrisy pill they'll have to swallow.

Republicans are vile, vile people. Attacking children, mocking the poor, and now reaming out a Parkinson's patient for cheap laughs. Link is to the full video, here's a taste of their hate:

Right-wing media set sights on family of 11-year-old who spoke about his mother's death at health care event | Media Matters for America

You're as filthy as those bastards who traffic in this kind of crap.

Op-Ed Columnist - Health Reform Myths - NYTimes.com

By John on March 12, 2010 2:50 PM | No Comments
"The only part of health care in which there isn't already a lot of federal intervention is the market in which individuals who can't get employment-based coverage buy their own insurance. And that market, in case you hadn't noticed, is a disaster -- no coverage for people with pre-existing medical conditions, coverage dropped when you get sick, and huge premium increases in the middle of an economic crisis. It's this sector, plus the plight of Americans with no insurance at all, that reform aims to fix. What's wrong with that?"

Krugman keeps talking sense about health care reform. None of this helps when Republicans keep making shit up and believing outright lies, but oh well.

Man, I sincerely hope Lush Rimjob is being serious about this. He says he'll move to Costa Rica if heath care reform passes in the US.

Now, I really wouldn't wish this on Costa Rica, but please pass the bill and get that fat, drug-addicted, boy fracking bastard off our airwaves and out of our country.

The Cost of Doing Nothing on Health Care - NYTimes.com

By John on March 4, 2010 8:31 AM | No Comments

Things could be a lot better in our economy if we'd worked on fixing the health care system sooner. All rational people, even a few grudging Republicans, will acknowledge that. But for damn sure things are gonna get worse if we keep pretending Republicans have valid points and do nothing.

Another graphical cost representation follows concerning how little we get for what we spend compared to other nations:
