Anthony Weiner: Hero of the Day

Yes, it's inappropriate and rude, but that doesn't mean a single word of it is false.

Bob Cesca: Happy Anniversary, Recovery Act

By John on February 17, 2010 2:13 PM | No Comments

Bob evaluates the success of the Recovery Act, as well as the horrible marketing campaign that should be informing Americans of the good their government is doing.

We as a national have done better in the stock market:

...in job creation:

...GDP growth:

...and in legislative achievement:

The New York Times figures that 1.6 million jobs have been created by the stimulus. Here is more on their reporting plus their sidebar graph info:

From my driving around from California to Colorado to Illinois, I've seen plenty of work being done. It isn't a boondoggle. It isn't waster (except for maybe some of the work here in Vegas but that's a local - re:GOP - choice). Perfectly deployed and explained? No. But a damn sight better than the sitting on our hands Hooverite approach the Rethugs suggested? Hell yeah!

So basically you've got the GOP against jobs and growth. Also in this is the reality that the GOP voted against 25 different tax cuts. Yep, they are even voting against things they say they are for when Democrats propose them.

The stupidity and lies continue from the tea baggers.

Inside Obama's Plan To Spend $8 Billion On High-Speed Rail (VIDEO)

By John on February 2, 2010 11:03 AM | No Comments

Some information on the President's plans to give this nation a modern high speed rail system.

Also, Wired has a history of high speed rail plus a good map of the new US routes being proposed. For a nation this big, this just makes sense. And we've got a lot of catching up to do.

Plus, I love trains.

Obama to zero out Yucca Mountain funding, pull license - Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 | 11:50 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

By John on February 1, 2010 3:04 PM | No Comments

Well, Nevadans, here is that change you can believe.

Probably the main local reason I voted for Obama was that he said he'd kill the plan to irradiate our local water supply with everyone else's nuclear waste. And here we are with him in the works to kill the project.

Excellent news.

Obama Goes To GOP Lions' Den - And Mauls The Lions

By John on January 29, 2010 3:37 PM | No Comments

Obama went to visit the House GOP members today, and they played silly politics while he did his job. He took them on and make them look foolish, so much so that FAUXNews stopped airing the discussion 20 minutes before it ended.

This is what I voted for.

This is what an American President looks like confronting the racists, bigots, do-nothings, and traitors who live only to oppose him.

Damn good job Mr. President.

Garrison Keillor - Salon.com

By John on January 27, 2010 11:25 AM | No Comments

Meanwhile, one-sixth of our population is without health insurance, and Republicans have decided that defeating Mr. Obama is more important than the welfare of 50 million Americans: Let them die and decrease the surplus population and be quick about it.

Garrison Keillor still has some fight in him. Good man. Here is his assessment on the true face of the GOP.

We need more voices calling out the Republicans for being the opportunistic cretins they are.

This nation is really going to miss John Paul Stevens when he finally retires from the bench. Not that the Talibangelicals will realize it, but seeing as thier justices just sold us out to China, they might look back on him differently.

Here is a good article on him and his thoughts on recent decisions by the Court.

A Letter to Rush Limbaugh :: rogerebert.com :: Opinion

By John on January 15, 2010 4:57 PM | No Comments

Roger Ebert continues to impress me.

Haiti has lost untold thousands of lives. One third of the population has lost its homes. Countless people are still buried in the rubble. Every American president would act quickly to help our neighbor. You are so cynical and heartless as to explain Obama's action in a way that unpleasantly suggests how your mind works.

You have a sizable listening audience. You apparently know how to please them. Anybody given a $400 million contract must know what he is doing.

That's what offends me. You know exactly what you're doing.

Remarks by the President on Strengthening Intelligence and Aviation Security | The White House

By John on January 8, 2010 10:35 AM | No Comments
To advance that progress, we've sought new beginnings with Muslim communities around the world, one in which we engage on the basis of mutual interest and mutual respect, and work together to fulfill the aspirations that all people share -- to get an education, to work with dignity, to live in peace and security. That's what America believes in. That's the vision that is far more powerful than the hatred of these violent extremists.

Here at home, we will strengthen our defenses, but we will not succumb to a siege mentality that sacrifices the open society and liberties and values that we cherish as Americans, because great and proud nations don't hunker down and hide behind walls of suspicion and mistrust. That is exactly what our adversaries want, and so long as I am President, we will never hand them that victory. We will define the character of our country, not some band of small men intent on killing innocent men, women and children.

And in this cause, every one of us -- every American, every elected official -- can do our part. Instead of giving into cynicism and division, let's move forward with the confidence and optimism and unity that defines us as a people. For now is not a time for partisanship, it's a time for citizenship -- a time to come together and work together with the seriousness of purpose that our national security demands.

That's what it means to be strong in the face of violent extremism. That's how we will prevail in this fight. And that's how we will protect our country and pass it -- safer and stronger -- to the next generation.

- President Obama on improving American security

You know, because I voted for a President who takes responsibility and fixes problems instead of one who points fingers and runs away every time something dangerous happens.

Keep it up Prez!
