Newborn with heart defect is denied insurance coverage for pre-existing condition

By John on March 26, 2010 10:06 AM | No Comments

Want to know why this country needs health reform? This story says it all. Blue Cross/Blue Shield rejected a NEWBORN'S medical claim for a pre-existing condition. Says his father:

"How can he have a pre-existing condition if the baby didn't exist until now?"

Indeed. The insurance bastards also tried to refuse to add the baby because both parents were not covered by them. The family pays for insurance for their kids, but neither are covered.

The little guy had the surgery and is fine, though the family is likely to be buried in debt. But, hey, BCBS is gonna turn a profit this year. And that's what matters, right?

Fear Strikes Out - Paul Krugman

By John on March 24, 2010 2:31 PM | No Comments

Thanks for Paul Krugman for calling out the fearmongers.

Instead, the emotional core of opposition to reform was blatant fear-mongering, unconstrained either by the facts or by any sense of decency.

It wasn't just the death panel smear. It was racial hate-mongering, like a piece in Investor's Business Daily declaring that health reform is "affirmative action on steroids, deciding everything from who becomes a doctor to who gets treatment on the basis of skin color." It was wild claims about abortion funding. It was the insistence that there is something tyrannical about giving young working Americans the assurance that health care will be available when they need it, an assurance that older Americans have enjoyed ever since Lyndon Johnson -- whom Mr. Gingrich considers a failed president -- pushed Medicare through over the howls of conservatives.

And let's be clear: the campaign of fear hasn't been carried out by a radical fringe, unconnected to the Republican establishment. On the contrary, that establishment has been involved and approving all the way. Politicians like Sarah Palin -- who was, let us remember, the G.O.P.'s vice-presidential candidate -- eagerly spread the death panel lie, and supposedly reasonable, moderate politicians like Senator Chuck Grassley refused to say that it was untrue. On the eve of the big vote, Republican members of Congress warned that "freedom dies a little bit today" and accused Democrats of "totalitarian tactics," which I believe means the process known as "voting."

Footnote: Charles Grassley is now taking credit for the bill's passage, trying to snow job people into forgetting how much against it he was, and probably still is.

Vandals Attack Dem Offices Nationwide

By John on March 23, 2010 3:51 PM | No Comments

If we've learned anything about Republicans it is that they absolutely hate losing in a fair fight. Not only do they sulk, they like to lash out like angry, violent children. I take that back, angry children are more rational.

Maddow has more on this.

Weak tea? Partiers fear fallout - Kenneth P. Vogel - POLITICO.com

By John on March 22, 2010 5:12 PM | No Comments

In theory, some of the Tea Bagging Traitors fear a backlash from all the racist and treasonous bullshit their kind spews. Granted, I'm supposed to believe these morons don't know they traffic in treason. That's a big leap of faith to be honest.

Cases in point follow.

Pastor Randy Neugebauer, who was on the ticket with Alan Keyes, is calling for the death of all 219 representatives who voted for health care reform. Now THAT is compassionate conservatism in action! And he's supposedly a "man of God".

ConservaTwit Solomon "Solly" Forell is in deep shit for tweeting about assassinating President Obama. So much for democracy; not that the GOP has been a fan of it anyway.

And then there are the Tea Bagger protest signs. Here are some, plus some more here.

- Bonus points for using a LaRouche sign

There's protesting and then there is pissing on the concept of America. This is the latter. They voluntarily chose to no longer be my countrymen.

Racism, Homophobia Dominates Tea Party Protest Over Health Care Bill

By John on March 22, 2010 4:39 PM | No Comments
This is not a spontaneous uprising of disaffected citizens who are angry about bailouts. This is the base of the modern Republican party, same as it ever was.

- Digby on the Tea Party Racist Traitors

I'd love to say I'm surprised but I've lived in the South and in the rural Midwest. Racist Republicans are nothing new to me.

However, you used to find that the most vile woman-hating, minority-loathing, gay-bashing language was kept at home. Now it is out in the open. The secessionist bullshit is in the open. The violent revolution is on the table.

Why? Because they lost a couple elections. That's it. People, in the main, got tired of their lies and bullshit and voted a lot of Republicans out of office. Then, we the people, elected a black man president. And these cretins went insane.

You have a better explanation? Pop me an email, because nothing else looks plausible.

Our nation is progressing. Moving forward. We just now got a health insurance system that is on par with other free nations of the world. They got their's in the middle of the last century. We'll get a portion of our's in four years time. Progress. Kind of.

But this is horrible for the conservatives. Let's see what passes for compassion with them.

Reverting to time honored racism, calling black Congressmen "nigger". Spitting on Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver.

Talking Points Memo has a nice roundup on both the racial element, plus the blatant homophobia by calls of "faggot" directed at Rep. Barney Frank.

Once again, so "compassionate" these conservatives.

Here are Reps James Clyburn and Elijah condemning the Rethugs:

I Am Angry

By John on March 18, 2010 10:13 PM | No Comments

I like this/

Sometimes a little righteous indignation goes a long way.

You are facing a bully. Deal with it!

Republicans want the country backwards. They champion superstition over science because it entrenches ignorance and bigotry and captures the easily frightened.

Republicans treat the Constitution the way they treat the Bible, with selective interpretation and selective application to others while exempting themselves from judgment and accountability.

Republicans preach the gospel of fear because fear is darkness and darkness covers their theft of civil liberties and Constitutional principles.

For thirty years the Republican Party has claimed the mantle of law and order but now quake in dread of the American judicial system when putting terrorists on trial. How criminal is that?

Torture is illegal. Period. John Wayne and Jack Bauer were not our Founding Fathers - only in the make-believe world of Republican drugstore-patriots.

DADT needs to be repealed. Now. It is unconscionable, immoral, and disgusting.

Empathy, compassion and equality are not pejoratives. They are American values proven again and again throughout our history.

Republicans believe that bake-sales and cookies for chemotherapy best determine the value of life and healthcare because life is a pre-existing condition and the "free market" should not have to take on such a high risk - after all, no one gets out alive, so why should the corporation be left holding the bag? Unless of course the price is right.

Republicans believe that government should keep its hands off healthcare but should put its hands inside a woman's body.

Republicans believe in small government - small enough to hold the "right" people and small enough to be owned and operated by the "right" people. And who are the "right" people? Them. Not you.

CNN Political Ticker:Reid's wife and daughter in car accident

By John on March 12, 2010 10:29 AM | No Comments

I hope Harry Reid's wife and daughter all the best after their bad car accident. I was going to use this story and a Politico one to point out how cruel and evil conservative commenters are.

Our local Vegas papers turned off the comments almost immediately. CNN and Politico neutered and filtered their comments, taking out not just the truly odious ones but even the marginally poor taste ones.

I'd argue we need those comments to stay intact. We need to know how dirty some Republicans can get. How evil, how contrary to the myth of "compassionate conservatism". How truly anti-family they are.

The more we let the bastards off the hook, the worse they get. Reference any of the Cheney family for an example of this.

Even when Rethugs attempt to understand technology ("It's a series of TUBES!!!!), they screw it up. Here is Bush's former Director of National Intelligence (wow, talk about a heckuvajob kinda guy) still trying to turn somewhat valid fears into ways to spy on Americans and earn profits for his pals.

Seriously, where do these guys get off calling themselves patriots when they are all about trading freedom for profits?
