The American right's trendy new constitutional doctrine: Gut feelings : Damned Pundit :: Las Vegas CityLife

By John on July 16, 2010 10:38 AM | No Comments

Another taste of the incredible levels of hypocrisy and stupidity coming from the GOP here in Nevada.

Thanks to Hugh Jackson for doing what so few others are willing to do.

Think Again: Ronald Reagan - By Peter Beinart | Foreign Policy

By John on June 15, 2010 3:02 PM | No Comments

So Reagan didn't have the bloodlust conservatives now try to give him. I mean, face it, you've got to have stones to bankrupt our nation in a game of "let's buy the most nukes" with the Soviets.

You've apparently also got to be bright enough to not actually use all the bombers and tanks just for the hell of it. Something lost on our last Republican president.

In short, if the article is true, Reagan was less of a mouth breather than I give him credit for, and neocons are full of it. As they usually are.

Famous Greek protest dog hits the streets

By John on May 7, 2010 4:07 PM | No Comments

This is a pretty neat story. Apparently in Greece a dog named Kanellos just shows up at protests, siding with those opposing the government.

Here is a gallery of photos of the dog, who sometimes gets into some dangerous situations.

Here is more coverage about him.

A brave dog to be sure, but no one seems to know if he's got an owner or anything else on him.

The Rachel Maddow Show - Tea Party really very, very small. And that's the scary part.

By John on April 27, 2010 8:31 AM | No Comments

There are less than 24 Tea Bagging Traitors for every 10,000 Americans, but they've managed to take over FAUXNews and the GOP. Sure, there aren't a lot of them, but if you give them a party and a network they could be dangerous.

Democrats need to challenge these racist treason lovers and to present a better alternative to hate and division.

How the GOP Purged Me | FrumForum

By John on April 5, 2010 9:24 AM | No Comments

Another conservative bemoans how the GOP has turned into a racist, hate-filled mob.

I am reminded, again, how many Republicans there are out there who aren't Tea Bagger Terrorists. My father-in-law was in town this weekend and, for quite a lot of reasons, he's the kind of Republican you want in this country. I don't agree with much he believes in, but his voice is one our leaders should be listening to. It is the counter-balance needed to make sure government doesn't go too far in trying to take care of our nation's many ills.

This is not accomplished by heeding the rants of white power anarchists.

So, give the article a read, nod a few times in key passages, and hope folks like Frum, and Currey, and my father-in-law and some friends can get their shit together and fix their party. We need them too, whether - and BECAUSE - you don't agree with them on all things. You grow as a person (and a nation) while debating other interesting and educated people. Yelling with bigoted douchebags just won't do the job.

An open letter to conservatives | AmericanDad's Blog

By John on March 23, 2010 3:31 PM | No Comments

This should be required reading.

A taste:

Dear Conservative Americans,

The years have not been kind to you. I grew up in a profoundly Republican home, so I can remember when you wore a very different face than the one we see now. You've lost me and you've lost most of America. Because I believe having responsible choices is important to democracy, I'd like to give you some advice and an invitation.

First, the invitation: Come back to us.

Now the advice. You're going to have to come up with a platform that isn't built on a foundation of cowardice: fear of people with colors, religions, cultures and sex lives that differ from your own; fear of reform in banking, health care, energy; fantasy fears of America being transformed into an Islamic nation, into social/commun/fasc-ism, into a disarmed populace put in internment camps; and more. But you have work to do even before you take on that task.

Your party -- the GOP -- and the conservative end of the American political spectrum has become irresponsible and irrational. Worse, it's tolerating, promoting and celebrating prejudice and hatred.

And that's just how it starts.

Biden, Biden, Biden...

Can't take that guy anywhere without some verbal gaffe.

He's still WAY preferable to shoot-'em-all-sneering-bastard Cheney. By a long shot.

Op-Ed Columnist - What Obama Stands For - NYTimes.com

By John on March 19, 2010 10:16 AM | No Comments

David Brooks is never going to be anything but a Republican apologist. But at least he dwells in the realm of reality as he tries to explain Barack Obama to any Republican who is still capable of thinking past Tea Bagger talking points.

I think he's pretty close to the mark, at least as far as a Republican can get. Not saying I'm on his bandwagon, but the GOP is going to need a LOT more people like Brooks if you are gonna get folks like me to believe that any of their arguments come from a place of sanity. As for now, there's no reasoning with that party on anything.

A Brief History of Senate Reconciliation Votes - Making Government Transparent and Accountable - Sunlight Foundation Blog

By John on March 9, 2010 4:31 PM | No Comments

You've heard Rethugs hyperventilate over the process, but they are the masters at using reconciliation to pass legislation the other side is against. Granted, I'm biased, but I'd rather see our citizens get health care than give millionaires more tax cuts. I mean, can't we tax them at 90% like we did back in the old days? Some history on the process.

That's about right

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Tea Party Will 'Twinkle And Disappear'

By John on February 24, 2010 4:41 PM | No Comments

Every once in awhile, Arnold forgets he's supposed to be some obstructionist Rethug and actually remembers all the rules to actually being a public servant that Sargent Shriver must have beat into his head. In those moments, he sounds like a credible politician. Too bad that guy hasn't been around much of late. Hopefully he's back to get his party whipped into some form of sanity.

Here is either the same interview or a followup in which he acts rationally and speaks as if there is more than one side to a story. Which, having this on FAUXNews, is pretty remarkable.

So, apparently, there may actually be Republicans who haven't gone total Palinite or Talibangelical. Just not many of them though.

Large Portion Of GOP Thinks Obama Is Racist, Socialist, Non-U.S. Citizen: Poll

By John on February 2, 2010 2:17 PM | No Comments

The actual title to this article should be: "Large Portion of GOP Are Inbred Pig Fuckers" or something to that effect.

Actually, I don't blame individual Republicans. Much. I mean, yes, it IS their fault for only listening to Lush Rimjob or Pat Racistson or watching FAUXNews. But the lies being fed to them from conservative Tea Bag wingnut sources are created by people who have enough brain cells to upload a webpage update and run a radio studio or TV camera. So, it's more the merchants of shit than the consumers of treason that are the problem.

Here are the actual poll results. To think these repressive cretins actually believe they embrace the spirit of America. Then again, slavers thought they were Americans once too I suppose.

Hmm, Why Has Bachmann Stopped Bashing The Census? | TPMDC

By John on January 4, 2010 2:53 PM | No Comments

You know, I was hoping this would happen. Sadly, the moron seems to have wised up. Birther Princess Michelle Bachmann has been carping about people not filling out the census so the "evil guvment" (that she works for) can't find out who is living in America.

First off, I hoped all her followers would be declared illegal aliens and shipped to an abandoned oil platform we can call Wingnuttia. Then I heard that Minnesota might lose a Representative district, namely her's.

So she's shut up all about avoiding the census.

Pity.

Sadly the fools CAN be taught. Just not anything that would make them better people.
