Look Sir, droids!

By John on July 16, 2010 9:30 AM | No Comments

Two stories this week concerning our increasingly mechanized military.

The first one involves self-driving supply trucks that allow the humans riding in it to spend their time looking for roadside bombs.

Personally, I'd reverse the roles but it's progress I guess.

Next story is a tad scarier. The Brits have basically built a Cylon Raider which they call the Taranis. Read up on it here.

So, um, Skynet may not have been so fictional, eh?

Republicans' new Web site not exactly what they hoped it would be

By John on May 26, 2010 10:39 AM | No Comments

Republicans shouldn't be allowed on the internet. Don't believe me? Here is my latest example. Seriously, every time these clowns roll out a new internet initiative, it fails stupendously.

This just goes along with other things conservatives should be kept from. Like bombs, children, science, education, etc.

Scrap Metal Radiation Raises Concerns in India

By John on May 17, 2010 10:16 AM | No Comments

This is a really disturbing story of the potential costs of recycling some of our more dangerous devices.

We really need to better monitor where our stuff goes and who it goes to. As it stands, one of the guys in the story eventually dies and those who may survive will have years of medical problems from the radiation damage they took.

I love technology. I love the concept of recycling, but care must be taken with each.

Granted I still use floppies to a limited extent, mostly while ghosting fresh images quickly. So, while a tad premature, here's a send off to a very nearly dead technology.

Richard Clarke On The Growing 'Cyberwar' Threat : NPR

By John on April 26, 2010 3:37 PM | No Comments

We're not out of the woods yet. According to Richard Clarke, we are woefully unprepared for the next phase in electronic warfare.

No doubt "electing" a Talibangelical Luddite didn't help.

Here is Clarke on The Rachel Maddow Show going further into this:

The iPhone Inspired DIY Kitchen Touch Screen Project

If we ever get to close on a home of our own (something that apparently is going to elude us here in Vegas), I really want to do something like this.

Cyberwar Hype Intended to Destroy the Open Internet | Threat Level | Wired.com

Even when Rethugs attempt to understand technology ("It's a series of TUBES!!!!), they screw it up. Here is Bush's former Director of National Intelligence (wow, talk about a heckuvajob kinda guy) still trying to turn somewhat valid fears into ways to spy on Americans and earn profits for his pals.

Seriously, where do these guys get off calling themselves patriots when they are all about trading freedom for profits?

Here is an interview with the CTO of CereProc explaining his company's product and plans.
