Yeah, this is about right.

So, I'm in the course of rebuilding my home PC and finding out how out of date it is.
Oh well. One of the things I used to do was keep a flash drive of setup apps handy but I haven't kept up on it and those are very out of date.
Then I found Ninite. It does a lot of the searching for the latest app business for you. Granted, it doesn't let you pick where you want to install stuff so that doesn't really work for me all the way (I like my apps on a separate partition) but if nothing else, it's a great short list on what apps I *do* want put on my box.
Check it out if you find a need for such a tool in a pinch.
Though I tend to agree with the commenters that Y2K was a mixed bag as I remember there being a LOT of work to prevent anything bad from happening, the rest of the items on this list are pretty much slam dunk examples on how to screw up big time.
