Hutaree militia arrests point to tripling of militias since 2008 / The Christian Science Monitor

By John on March 31, 2010 11:00 AM | No Comments

Militias are growing as never before. And with the greater amount of anti-government traitors, the more likely you'll get more loons like the Hutaree Honkies.

Militias have grown from 149 to 512 in just the past couple years, with most of the growth in the MidWest, not to mention Texas.

Republicans are trying to distance themselves from these assclowns, but also go out of their way to support them and their Tea Bagging cohorts.

The Associated Press: FBI giving cops critical info: How to spot an IED

But, you know, these so-called Christians and other lunatics aren't a threat to America or anything.

Yeah, right.

Indiana man charged in plot contests indictment - Chicago Breaking News

Read this.

Actually, read the comments. The amount of work by people try to either excuse away these Christian terrorists is obscene. Face it, these nitwits are self-described Christian militiamen and -women. The media isn't hyping this up: the group itself wants to initiate "Armageddon".

It isn't hyperbole, it is reporting the story.

Yes, some Christians are nice, decent people. Probably the majority. And some are racist bastards. And others are "family values" politicians who wash each others feet, cheat on their wives, try to sleep with young boys, and watch lesbian bondage shows on their donor's dime. And others want to kill a bunch of cops and start a holy war within our borders.

Republicans say they have a big tent. Sadly, most of them are circus clowns, hypocrites and terrorists.

Yet another review for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

We had eight years of Bush and Cheney, Now you get mad!? | Daily Kos

By John on March 29, 2010 3:34 PM | No Comments

Just some concerns for the Tea Bagging ilk on why they were cool with Bush and Cheney driving the nation into the ground but now want violent revolt over equal pay for women and health care for our most needy citizens. Is this "compassionate conservatism" at work or just good ol' fashioned Republican Racism?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate
energy policy.

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.

You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans...oh hell no.

Nine Christian Militia Members Charged With Seditious Conspiracy, Attempted Use Of WMD | TPMMuckraker

By John on March 29, 2010 3:17 PM | No Comments

Onward Christian (bigoted, racist, anti-American) Soldiers!

Many sources on this, but Talking Points Memo has got a good lead on this.

So far, nine "Christian" militia members have been charged with sedition. More on their activites, including videos advocating armed revolt.

NPR is covering the story, complete with pro-militia commenters. You know, "violence = free speech" and other insane conservative BS. (Want any proof NPR has been taken over by the lunatic right? Read this crap.)

Juan Cole does a more rational job in covering the dangers of this round in the militia movement.

Rachel Maddow has some info on this and continues on the blog with other related stories.

Here is the local Detroit News article, with some tongue-in-cheek followup concerning the group's name.

And, since this is probably the tip of the iceberg, more on how this is just the beginning of a trend of hatred by so-called Christians.

How Obama moved in for the kill | Peter Hartcher

By John on March 29, 2010 3:04 PM | No Comments

As we all knew, no matter how much it frustrates us, Barack Obama is playing a completely different political game than anyone else. We have health care reform - and a GOP knocked back on it's heels - BECAUSE of his strategy.

"By calling a modern politician like Obama a communist, the Republicans have invited eye-rolling and alienated the most important voters - the persuadable ones. And Obama gets to appeal to a sense of fairness."

The 2010 Census: Stepping Out Of The Big White Box : NPR

While neither Puerto Rico nor Iranian, I can totally get the gist of this article.

I mean, I'm pretty light skinned, but you can obviously tell I'm not full Anglo. And it bugs me to fill out forms as "white" when I sure the hell aren't getting the full white boy treatment in this world. I've got a chip on my shoulder for sure, but I didn't put it there myself.

Or, as the article puts it:

"When I was applying for college, I actually looked for the box to mark Iranian," he muses, "and I went to my counselor and I said, 'There's no Iranian box' and they go, 'Well, you're white.' I go, 'What do you mean I'm white?' I took all the insults growing up -- camel jockey, towel head, all this other stuff -- and all I had to say was, 'Dude, I'm white!'"

In the comments however, is the following gem:

You know, that gets me thinking. I mean, it's all so clear if you just think it through.

* Glenn Beck's initials are G.B. He supports the Republicans.
* Republican President George Bush's initials are G.B. He used to snort cocaine.
* Gary Busey used to (still does?) snort cocaine, and his initials are G.B. He's crazy.
* A lot of crazy people live in England, which is part of Great Britain. Its initials are also G.B.
* Great Britain is where Karl Marx died. His initials are K.M.
* Kilometers are abbreviated as "KM". Kilometers were used in the Soviet Union.
* The Soviet Union based its economy on Karl Marx. Its initials are S.U.
* The United States' initials are U.S. The opposite of S.U.

Do you see what this means? Fill in the dots, people!

Glenn Beck supports--George Bush's--crazy plan--to reunify with Great Britain--convert to the metric system--bring back Karl Marx--and the Soviet Union--in its opposite--the United States.

Don't you people see? Glenn Beck ... (sorry, I'm getting little emotional)...

Glenn Beck ... IS A COMMUNIST!

Seeing as you were pulling down something in the mid-40k range at the time, it was a big stretch. Then McCain, grasping for anything, put you on stage across America. You were on TV. You got to lie to millions. Hell, you were even some form of war reporter.

I'd saw you made the most of a situation you'd have NEVER gotten into by being a Klucker-looking lying sociopath. And now you're bitching about it?

Seeing as he had some say into the original framing of the Constitution, I think he had a better sense of what is or is not constitutional than your average racist southerner. Right?

Facts About A Palin Presidency

By John on March 29, 2010 10:15 AM | No Comments

This is cringe worthy as a thought but hilarious to read.

Some I found funny:

"God will tell President Palin to invade Canada in order to save Canadians from universal health care insurance."

"Holding true to the tenants of the TEA Party movement, Sarah Palin vows to repeal the nation's many unearned and undeserved entitlement programs, starting with the Bill of Rights."

"Sarah Palin is serious about limiting the size of government, and plans to do her part by quitting halfway through her first term."

"Palin will not allow 'government death panels'; instead, she will force poor people to die without the intervention of the state."

Bonus entry:

"Sarah Palin will sign an Executive Order changing the official name of the Presidency of Barack Obama to the "Socialist Hope-y Change-y" era, infuriating Texas state school board officials, who will then be forced to approve history books which admit that Obama was ever actually in fact President."

Whose Country Is It? - Charles M. Blow

By John on March 28, 2010 10:06 PM | No Comments

This needs said. It needs said more often and by more people.

The problem is that the country romanticized by the far right hasn't existed for some time, and its ability to deny that fact grows more dim every day. President Obama and what he represents has jolted extremists into the present and forced them to confront the future. And it scares them.

Even the optics must be irritating. A woman (Nancy Pelosi) pushed the health care bill through the House. The bill's most visible and vocal proponents included a gay man (Barney Frank) and a Jew (Anthony Weiner). And the black man in the White House signed the bill into law. It's enough to make a good old boy go crazy....

You may want "your country back," but you can't have it. That sound you hear is the relentless, irrepressible march of change. Welcome to America: The Remix.

The Rage Is Not About Health Care - Frank Rich

By John on March 28, 2010 9:10 PM | No Comments

Frank Rich points out that, if you look at things historically, the psychotic over-reaction of the Tea Baggers and their ilk has no comparison. Except for one. The last time conservatives went this nuts was during the Civil Rights Bill passage in the 1960s. So, it isn't about "socialism" or "government takeover of, well, NOTHING" or any of their talking points. It's about racism. Pure and simple.

But I imagine most of you already knew that.

Palin, Tea Party Rally In Senator Reid's Hometown

I honestly didn't listen to any of the coverage from the TraitorFest in Searchlight today.

But I did get two things out of the above article.

One, this quote from a Harry Reid supporter:

"You don't come to a man's house and start creating a ruckus."

Two, anytime you have to remind your audience that "I know you're not a racist group," then the group you're with is probably racist. These things usually go without saying.

Going to Extreme - Paul Krugman

By John on March 26, 2010 4:42 PM | No Comments

Krugman gets to the heart of the Tea Bagger problem.

"(T)oday's G.O.P. is, fully and finally, the party of Ronald Reagan -- not Reagan the pragmatic politician, who could and did strike deals with Democrats, but Reagan the antigovernment fanatic, who warned that Medicare would destroy American freedom. It's a party that sees modest efforts to improve Americans' economic and health security not merely as unwise, but as monstrous. It's a party in which paranoid fantasies about the other side -- Obama is a socialist, Democrats have totalitarian ambitions -- are mainstream. And, as a result, it's a party that fundamentally doesn't accept anyone else's right to govern.

"In the short run, Republican extremism may be good for Democrats, to the extent that it prompts a voter backlash. But in the long run, it's a very bad thing for America. We need to have two reasonable, rational parties in this country. And right now we don't."

One of the hardest things my mom ever did was to invest the time to study for - and pass - her citizenship test. For an immigrant to learn our system of government so completely, and to HAVE to do so to gain the citizenship we all take for granted, is a lot of work. History.com has this citizenship quiz online. I've said for years that you shouldn't be able to vote in this country until you can pass a citizenship test. Here's a small taste of what you would need to know to do so.

I would imagine we'd have a lot less teabaggers in this nation once they learned how this nation really ran and why.

Tea Party Backers Who Scorn Socialism Want Government Jobs Push - BusinessWeek

By John on March 25, 2010 4:10 PM | No Comments

Much of what you need to know about the morons in the Tea Bagger Party can be found in the following paragraphs in this article:

More than 90 percent of Tea Party backers interviewed in a new Bloomberg National Poll say the U.S. is verging more toward socialism than capitalism, the federal government is trying to control too many aspects of private life and more decisions should be made at the state level.

At the same time, 70 percent of those who sympathize with the Tea Party, which organized protests this week against President Barack Obama's health-care overhaul, want a federal government that fosters job creation.

So, they only want the government to repress women, minorities, gays, "furners" and anyone who doesn't like NASCAR or sleep with their cousin.

Oh, and to bomb brown people periodically.

And, oh yeah, and they all want a government-funded job.

But they don't want to pay taxes to fund said job. Gotcha.

These cretins swear they aren't violent.

John McCain blows off the danger of his party's rhetoric, much like he did Palin's filth in 2008.

The NRCC says that threats against people's lives aren't a big deal.

There's a map tracking the violence. Hopefully it doesn't get any more additions.

As Maddow points out, much of this stupidity is driven by the GOP leadership itself.

Bob Cesca: Right-Wing Terrorism Stoked by Conservative Leaders Again

By John on March 24, 2010 3:55 PM | No Comments

Some Republicans are crazy rat bastards bent of assassination, murder, vandalism, and just plain mayhem.

Why? Because a black guy is President and they can't stand the reality that their hatemongering keeps losing them elections.

Bob Cesca covers the recent history of this maggot trend, up to the threats of murdering people's children.

The worst part? Not a single elected Republican dares to speak against this. Every party has their crazy people. What you do about them is what counts. The GOP of late? From Palin on they've embraced these treasonous idiots.

Call me a liar if you want, but you don't have a stitch of proof to the contrary.

Ten members of Congress have had their lives threatened since Sunday's health care vote.

In Virginia, someone posted the address online, thinking it was the Congressman's house.

When told he had the wrong house and that the wrong family might get killed, one of the Tea Bagging Traitors involved, Nigel Coleman, only had this to say:

"Oh well, collateral damage."

Collateral damage is what happens when a bomb goes awry. When you put a hit out of the wrong family, it's willful and callous ignorance on top of a terrorist act.

And now the GOP is stalking Rep. Steve Driehaus in Ohio, planning to raid his house. This is after a local newspaper ran an ad targeting his daughters. And that was when he was planning to vote against the bill.

More, certainly, will come. Nobody on the right wing side of the spectrum is telling these animals to stop. So they won't. Republicans are far too worried about votes instead of preserving democracy, civility, or, hell, just doing the right thing.

I don't want to see anyone hurt, at least those being targeted, but any blood sits at the feet of the GOP.

Fear Strikes Out - Paul Krugman

By John on March 24, 2010 2:31 PM | No Comments

Thanks for Paul Krugman for calling out the fearmongers.

Instead, the emotional core of opposition to reform was blatant fear-mongering, unconstrained either by the facts or by any sense of decency.

It wasn't just the death panel smear. It was racial hate-mongering, like a piece in Investor's Business Daily declaring that health reform is "affirmative action on steroids, deciding everything from who becomes a doctor to who gets treatment on the basis of skin color." It was wild claims about abortion funding. It was the insistence that there is something tyrannical about giving young working Americans the assurance that health care will be available when they need it, an assurance that older Americans have enjoyed ever since Lyndon Johnson -- whom Mr. Gingrich considers a failed president -- pushed Medicare through over the howls of conservatives.

And let's be clear: the campaign of fear hasn't been carried out by a radical fringe, unconnected to the Republican establishment. On the contrary, that establishment has been involved and approving all the way. Politicians like Sarah Palin -- who was, let us remember, the G.O.P.'s vice-presidential candidate -- eagerly spread the death panel lie, and supposedly reasonable, moderate politicians like Senator Chuck Grassley refused to say that it was untrue. On the eve of the big vote, Republican members of Congress warned that "freedom dies a little bit today" and accused Democrats of "totalitarian tactics," which I believe means the process known as "voting."

Footnote: Charles Grassley is now taking credit for the bill's passage, trying to snow job people into forgetting how much against it he was, and probably still is.

An open letter to conservatives | AmericanDad's Blog

By John on March 23, 2010 3:31 PM | No Comments

This should be required reading.

A taste:

Dear Conservative Americans,

The years have not been kind to you. I grew up in a profoundly Republican home, so I can remember when you wore a very different face than the one we see now. You've lost me and you've lost most of America. Because I believe having responsible choices is important to democracy, I'd like to give you some advice and an invitation.

First, the invitation: Come back to us.

Now the advice. You're going to have to come up with a platform that isn't built on a foundation of cowardice: fear of people with colors, religions, cultures and sex lives that differ from your own; fear of reform in banking, health care, energy; fantasy fears of America being transformed into an Islamic nation, into social/commun/fasc-ism, into a disarmed populace put in internment camps; and more. But you have work to do even before you take on that task.

Your party -- the GOP -- and the conservative end of the American political spectrum has become irresponsible and irrational. Worse, it's tolerating, promoting and celebrating prejudice and hatred.

And that's just how it starts.

An Absence of Class in the G.O.P. - NYTimes.com

By John on March 23, 2010 1:57 PM | No Comments

A damning indictment on the racist, bigoted fearmongering that represents today's Republican Party.

At some point, we have to decide as a country that we just can't have this: We can't allow ourselves to remain silent as foaming-at-the-mouth protesters scream the vilest of epithets at members of Congress -- epithets that The Times will not allow me to repeat here.

It is 2010, which means it is way past time for decent Americans to rise up against this kind of garbage, to fight it aggressively wherever it appears. And it is time for every American of good will to hold the Republican Party accountable for its role in tolerating, shielding and encouraging foul, mean-spirited and bigoted behavior in its ranks and among its strongest supporters.

For decades the G.O.P. has been the party of fear, ignorance and divisiveness. All you have to do is look around to see what it has done to the country. The greatest economic inequality since the Gilded Age was followed by a near-total collapse of the overall economy. As a country, we have a monumental mess on our hands and still the Republicans have nothing to offer in the way of a remedy except more tax cuts for the rich.

This is the party of trickle down and weapons of mass destruction, the party of birthers and death-panel lunatics. This is the party that genuflects at the altar of right-wing talk radio, with its insane, nauseating, nonstop commitment to hatred and bigotry....

The G.O.P. poisons the political atmosphere and then has the gall to complain about an absence of bipartisanship.

The toxic clouds that are the inevitable result of the fear and the bitter conflicts so relentlessly stoked by the Republican Party -- think blacks against whites, gays versus straights, and a whole range of folks against immigrants -- tend to obscure the tremendous damage that the party's policies have inflicted on the country. If people are arguing over immigrants or abortion or whether gays should be allowed to marry, they're not calling the G.O.P. to account for (to take just one example) the horribly destructive policy of cutting taxes while the nation was fighting two wars.

If you're all fired up about Republican-inspired tales of Democrats planning to send grandma to some death chamber, you'll never get to the G.O.P.'s war against the right of ordinary workers to organize and negotiate in their own best interests -- a war that has diminished living standards for working people for decades.

With a freer hand, the Republicans would have done more damage. George W. Bush tried to undermine Social Security. John McCain was willing to put Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the Oval Office and thought Phil Gramm would have made a crackerjack Treasury secretary. (For those who may not remember, Mr. Gramm was a deregulation zealot who told us during the presidential campaign that we were suffering from a "mental recession.")

A party that promotes ignorance ("Just say no to global warming") and provides a safe house for bigotry cannot serve the best interests of our country.

Weak tea? Partiers fear fallout - Kenneth P. Vogel - POLITICO.com

In theory, some of the Tea Bagging Traitors fear a backlash from all the racist and treasonous bullshit their kind spews. Granted, I'm supposed to believe these morons don't know they traffic in treason. That's a big leap of faith to be honest.

Cases in point follow.

Pastor Randy Neugebauer, who was on the ticket with Alan Keyes, is calling for the death of all 219 representatives who voted for health care reform. Now THAT is compassionate conservatism in action! And he's supposedly a "man of God".

ConservaTwit Solomon "Solly" Forell is in deep shit for tweeting about assassinating President Obama. So much for democracy; not that the GOP has been a fan of it anyway.

Racism, Homophobia Dominates Tea Party Protest Over Health Care Bill

By John on March 22, 2010 4:39 PM | No Comments
This is not a spontaneous uprising of disaffected citizens who are angry about bailouts. This is the base of the modern Republican party, same as it ever was.

- Digby on the Tea Party Racist Traitors

I'd love to say I'm surprised but I've lived in the South and in the rural Midwest. Racist Republicans are nothing new to me.

However, you used to find that the most vile woman-hating, minority-loathing, gay-bashing language was kept at home. Now it is out in the open. The secessionist bullshit is in the open. The violent revolution is on the table.

Why? Because they lost a couple elections. That's it. People, in the main, got tired of their lies and bullshit and voted a lot of Republicans out of office. Then, we the people, elected a black man president. And these cretins went insane.

You have a better explanation? Pop me an email, because nothing else looks plausible.

Our nation is progressing. Moving forward. We just now got a health insurance system that is on par with other free nations of the world. They got their's in the middle of the last century. We'll get a portion of our's in four years time. Progress. Kind of.

But this is horrible for the conservatives. Let's see what passes for compassion with them.

Reverting to time honored racism, calling black Congressmen "nigger". Spitting on Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver.

Talking Points Memo has a nice roundup on both the racial element, plus the blatant homophobia by calls of "faggot" directed at Rep. Barney Frank.

Once again, so "compassionate" these conservatives.

Here are Reps James Clyburn and Elijah condemning the Rethugs:

I hope they can get their meds past the big ol' honking hypocrisy pill they'll have to swallow.

I Am Angry

By John on March 18, 2010 10:13 PM | No Comments

I like this/

Sometimes a little righteous indignation goes a long way.

You are facing a bully. Deal with it!

Republicans want the country backwards. They champion superstition over science because it entrenches ignorance and bigotry and captures the easily frightened.

Republicans treat the Constitution the way they treat the Bible, with selective interpretation and selective application to others while exempting themselves from judgment and accountability.

Republicans preach the gospel of fear because fear is darkness and darkness covers their theft of civil liberties and Constitutional principles.

For thirty years the Republican Party has claimed the mantle of law and order but now quake in dread of the American judicial system when putting terrorists on trial. How criminal is that?

Torture is illegal. Period. John Wayne and Jack Bauer were not our Founding Fathers - only in the make-believe world of Republican drugstore-patriots.

DADT needs to be repealed. Now. It is unconscionable, immoral, and disgusting.

Empathy, compassion and equality are not pejoratives. They are American values proven again and again throughout our history.

Republicans believe that bake-sales and cookies for chemotherapy best determine the value of life and healthcare because life is a pre-existing condition and the "free market" should not have to take on such a high risk - after all, no one gets out alive, so why should the corporation be left holding the bag? Unless of course the price is right.

Republicans believe that government should keep its hands off healthcare but should put its hands inside a woman's body.

Republicans believe in small government - small enough to hold the "right" people and small enough to be owned and operated by the "right" people. And who are the "right" people? Them. Not you.

Wal-Mart 'Appalled' by Racial Announcement (Yeah, sure they are)

By John on March 18, 2010 1:10 PM | No Comments
"Attention, Wal-Mart customers. All blacks need to leave the store."

Wal-Mart is supposedly shocked by hiring racists to harass their black customers.

When my dad got a night job at a Wal-Mart in Illinois, he introduced me to some of the racist propaganda masquerading as training videos. Granted, the message of one tape was for white stockboys not to call elderly black men as "boy" but it was more of a wink, wink, nod, nod "don't do that in public" thing. I don't have a copy of the tape but I'm sure it's out on the Net somewhere.

Besides, Wal-Mart knows how to butter it's bread. Cater to the racist NECKCAR fans and then buy out any competition in minority-majority areas to where folks HAVE to put up with their racist shit.

We need to rethink our tipping habits | Marketplace From American Public Media

One, we should be paying people a proper wage instead of demanding patrons to cover the difference. That said, I don't really mind paying for good service. Feeling like I'm forced to pay up is really annoying though.

Two, not everyone deserves a tip jar. I mean, you just put some ice cream in a cone. Come on. And I'm sure the rest of you have all kinds of examples of people who don't need any damn tips.

2012: The Year The World Will Not End - 13.7: Cosmos And Culture Blog : NPR

By John on March 17, 2010 10:57 AM | No Comments

If you know some conspiracy theorist nutjobs - and, hey, don't we all? - one of their big hangups is that the world is going to end in a couple years.

I believe this could happen myself. At least as long we keep letting these folks think their ideas have any merits. That way, the crazy multiplies until it and not any comet, aliens, sunburst or whatnot actually kills creation.

I also believe that the longer we keep letting Tea Baggers think they have a valid point of view, the closer this country comes to being a violent theocracy that re-institutes slavery but just for the "non-Christians". That might be a conspiracy theory too but if you listen to those freaks, I think I'm not that far off.

Anyway, for the 2012 nuts, here's some actual science and logic to counter their crazy. Odds are, though, that's it's too late for reasoning.

"The only part of health care in which there isn't already a lot of federal intervention is the market in which individuals who can't get employment-based coverage buy their own insurance. And that market, in case you hadn't noticed, is a disaster -- no coverage for people with pre-existing medical conditions, coverage dropped when you get sick, and huge premium increases in the middle of an economic crisis. It's this sector, plus the plight of Americans with no insurance at all, that reform aims to fix. What's wrong with that?"

Krugman keeps talking sense about health care reform. None of this helps when Republicans keep making shit up and believing outright lies, but oh well.

CNN Political Ticker:Reid's wife and daughter in car accident

By John on March 12, 2010 10:29 AM | No Comments

I hope Harry Reid's wife and daughter all the best after their bad car accident. I was going to use this story and a Politico one to point out how cruel and evil conservative commenters are.

Our local Vegas papers turned off the comments almost immediately. CNN and Politico neutered and filtered their comments, taking out not just the truly odious ones but even the marginally poor taste ones.

I'd argue we need those comments to stay intact. We need to know how dirty some Republicans can get. How evil, how contrary to the myth of "compassionate conservatism". How truly anti-family they are.

The more we let the bastards off the hook, the worse they get. Reference any of the Cheney family for an example of this.

What a daft way to stop your spaniel eating the milkman | Jeremy Clarkson - Times Online

By John on March 11, 2010 11:11 AM | No Comments
What good did all the airport legislation achieve? None. It simply means that you and I now must get to the airport six years before the plane is due to leave and arrive at the other end with yellow teeth, smelly armpits and no nail file. Did it prevent a chap from getting on board with exploding underpants? No, it did not.

Happily, however, I have a solution to the problem, a way that normal human behaviour can be preserved. It's simple. We must start to accept that 5% of the population at any given time is bonkers. There are no steps to be taken to stamp this out and no lessons to be learnt when a man with a beard boards a plane with an exploding dog.

I don't always agree with Clarkson, nor should I, but he's got the right ideas concerning why and how we inconvenience everyone for the stupidity of a few.

Limbaugh has another reason for moving to Costa Rica | Lat/Am Daily

By John on March 10, 2010 10:42 AM | No Comments

We all know that Rimjob isn't planning to move to Costa Rica for their universal health care and green energy initiatives. Turns out though, that, yes, they DO have a sex industry. He probably won't be able to sleep with little boys there but I'm sure he's not overly picky.

Also, since we're talking about that fat gasbag, more proof he's a racist SOB:

"So, David Paterson will become the massa - who gets to appoint whoever gets to take Massa's place. So, for the first time in his life, Paterson's gonna be a massa. Interesting, interesting."

Of course, referring to Governor Paterson, who is black, having to pick who replaces Rep. Eric Massa.

A great look at the dollars and cents of health care reform versus just making shit up.

Yes, health care reform is going to cost a lot to set up. It is also going to save us a lot of money once it is up and running. That's the projections from the guys with slide rules and charts and such.

As for Bush, the so-called fiscal conservative? He just rammed a bunch of tax cuts for the rich down our throats and a ton of unfunded mandates and a couple wars. We'll be the better part of this century paying for his bad ideas.

Climate change in our own backyards | Marketplace From American Public Media

By John on March 9, 2010 4:11 PM | No Comments

I have having a conversation with someone the other day and this story from Marketplace came to mind. Basically, it concerns the destruction of forests in Montana thanks to milder winters there in recent years.

The lack of good solid cold snaps is letting a native beetle species flourish and destroy large tracts of pine trees. Granted, Montana may have two Democratic senators and a governor, but it's a pretty conservative place. Without being too giddy about it, I'm pretty sure these folks are reaping what they sowed when mocking climate change news. Now it is in their backyards, literally.

Sometimes it takes a harsh lesson to learn truth and put aside politically motivated myth, and this *is* a hard one to learn at that. Hopefully these folks will teach their conservative brethren the fallacy of their rhetoric. I mean, Georgia is turning into a desert and that hasn't changed any minds.

In short, conservatives need to get on board and help address the threats that affect ALL of us. Too bad that you can look at the majority of the commenters on this story and still see a lot of kool aid drinkers.

Honestly, when our economy fails and the ecology collapses, I won't have one iota of humanity left for these bastards. I hope they starve outside whatever front door I have while I help protect those who actually realize that our actions have consequences. Let those whose greed destroy our world suffer for their misdeeds.

The Rehabilitation Of Joseph McCarthy? Texas Textbooks Process Grinds On | TPMMuckraker

That bastard Don McLeroy may have lost his seat on the Texas State School Board, but there are still plenty of Talibangelical jackasses who want to destroy our education system.

These are the pricks who honestly think that Joe McCarthy is some kind of American hero. No, seriously.

These people have literally got to be stopped. Not in a lethal sense, but their point of view, their derangement, their flawed thinking and beliefs. Their disease has got to stop being taken seriously.

Yes, it starts with an election, but this is one in Rethug-ruled Texas. Even a possibly moderate Republican is going to have Luddite and Talibangelical tendencies, if not Tea Bag Traitor ones come re-election time.

We need our children educated, not fed fairy tales and lies. We want them to open their minds and not close their hearts. That's what the Republicans want to give our people: hate, fear, ignorance. Never forget that.

Robertson: "God Even Angrier with Chile than Haiti" - The Desperate Blogger - Open Salon

By John on March 1, 2010 3:53 PM | No Comments

This is funny.

Not so much the story, though that's entertaining. What is hilarious is that people are taking this story seriously. Yes, it's satire. It is made up.

The same folks pissed that they were duped should really be asking themselves how they believed this. Is it so well written that they were hoodwinked? I mean, I like the article but no.

The real answer is that Pat Robertson is such a reprehensible shitheel that you can't help but believe he uttered things like:

"If I had to guess, I'd say it must have to do with Chile's persecution and attempted prosecution of their great former leader, and a personal hero of mine, Augusto Pinochet - who, it should be noted, had never been convicted of a crime when the Lord called him home three years ago."

And I'm sure the Talibangelicals will create the "Christian" form of a murder fatwa for the author once they get together and rub their two collective brain cells together and gin up another bad idea.
