Political Irony › The Party of Family Values?

By John on June 30, 2009 4:59 PM | No Comments

From the posting at PI:

"A graph printed in the NY times arranges the states according to their divorce rate, teenage birthrate, and (perhaps most telling of all) their subscriptions to online porn sites. So, which states would you think would lead in these "sin" statistics? Red States, the home of family values, moral rectitude, and social conservatives? Or Blue States, the home of moral turpitude and liberal attitudes toward abortion and gay marriage?"

Did Obama Murder Stimulus Critic Mark Sanford? « That's Right Nate

By John on June 30, 2009 3:24 PM | No Comments

Ever wonder what fantasies your bitter, single conservative co-workers go home to whack off to? I mean, besides a three-way with horse-faced Coulter and Play-Doh face Malkin.

Here ya go. Apparently some conservathugs were wet dreaming about Obama offing Sanford for not taking stimulus money.

Yeah, don't thank me all at once for those visuals.

This is the angry GOP these days.

Basically, they don't get the Prez. Not like I do all the time either, but he's never going to take you out if you are an opponent of his. Instead, he'll keep you in the Senate like a funny-looking elderly muppet, like he does with McCain. Or he'll make you his international Girl Friday, like he did with Clinton. If you are a potential GOP opponent with a brain, he'll co-opt you into his administration and then ship you off (re: Huntsman).

No, if he REALLY wanted Sanford gone, he'd probably make him some Select Ambassador on Family Values and THEN let the guy reveal his affair while flagellating himself with a thorned whip. On Easter Sunday.

This is just the GOP being itself. Hypocrites.

McCain campaigners allegedly called Palin 'Little Shop of Horrors'

By John on June 30, 2009 2:35 PM | No Comments

I first read this column and had a little laugh over the continuing idiocy of the everlasting Sarah Palin parade. And then it occurs to me that maybe this IS the best the Republicans have to offer this nation.

Holy crap!

Then I went ahead and gutted through the actual article. To be honest, I'm probably more frightened now than before. Not only is this person a dolt, but people in the GOP who KNEW she was a dolt just went along with setting her up to be the 45th President when, not if, McCain would have faltered physically.

Let us restate this: they KNEW she wasn't up to the task, and tried to play it off ANYWAY. For partisan pride and to hell with the United States of America!

Never mind that she might be the best that they've got (especially with Ensign and Sanford caught with their pants down and Piyush being Mr. Rogers in brownface), the lack of respect for all Americans by the Republican Party is sick, and borderline treachery.

Wow, the frat boys over at FAUXNews have done it again.

Whenever a Republican screws up, particularly in a sexcapade, FAUX labels him as a Democrat. One, it's the worst insult they think they have. Two, and more importantly, they are so afraid of being affiliated with guys who slum for blowjobs in airport bathrooms or cheat on their wives that they do everything they can to make us forget that some said miscreants were just recently in line to be their candidate for President.

"SECTION 16-15-70. 'Adultery' defined.

'Adultery' is the living together and carnal intercourse with each other or habitual carnal intercourse with each other without living together of a man and woman when either is lawfully married to some other person."

Just saying. In South Carolina, adultery is still a crime. Strangely, no one is trying to charge Sanford for cheating on his wife.

Here's his quasi-sincere apology and explanation:

Plus some unanswered questions.

Basically, this is just another "family values" pushing bigot who got caught cheating on his wife.

I know the media is going to give him all the room in the world, cause "ah shucks, what a nice guy" is apparently the rule of the day. Even to grandstanding thugs.

It's a damn shame that no one witch hunts these assholes the same way they did Clinton. Where, oh where, are the calls for this guy to resign? He directly broke a state law but is allowed to keep his job?

Tapes Reveal Nixon's View of Abortion - NYTimes.com

Wow.

According to this article on new revelations of the Nixon White House tapes, Tricky Dick was for abortions in very limited situations. You know, like "(w)hen you have a black and a white".

There is also more on his - and Billy Graham's - anti-Semitic beliefs. And a couple entries that make Reagan look like more of an anti-democracy scumbag than I had earlier given him credit for.

Ensign's Sex-Scandal Enabler? - The Daily Beast

By John on June 22, 2009 4:35 PM | No Comments

Turns out that another "family values" Republican has spent the last year providing cover for John Ensign's affair.

Tom Coburn, supposedly "moral" Oklahoma legislator, has been point man on a) supporting Ensign, and b) covering up the affair.

To clear things up for our pseudo-Christian friends: Ensign screwed a subordinate which, yes, violates his oath of marriage, and then bumped up her pay, got her husband AND her 19 year old son gigs on both the federal and GOP dime.

But you guys sure know when a wrong is wrong, right? Clinton screws an intern and we blow (sorry, bad pun) the better part of a million to get him impeach. Your boy Larry Craig tries to have sex with another man you try your best to run him out of office.

Here in Nevada we have a GOP governor who took office early (and possibly illegally), tried to bang a cocktail waitress in a parking garage and has cheated on his wife with other women, but you're fine with that.

And now Nevada has another scumbag violator of the oath of marriage and you have no problem with that either?

What's it like to always be on the wrong side of the argument?

According to recent polls, 72 percent of Americans would like the government to offer some kind of public option plan for health insurance.

According to the same poll, only 18 percent would even want to see what Rethugs have to think on the issue. So why are they getting all of the press?

Honestly, given how Leslie's plan has been gutted and how mine has felt a bit of a squeeze of late, I'd like to see the details of said policy as well.

I just think Republicans don't want to lose the lobbyist dollars they get from the insurance industry. I mean, if they really hated public insurance, they'd be cancelling the plan the government currently spends money on for them. Right?

Think Progress » Missouri lawmaker on child hunger: 'Hunger can be a positive motivator.'

By John on June 22, 2009 9:27 AM | No Comments

And we now have crowned our 21st Century Marie Antionette, State Rep. Cynthia Davis of Missouri. A Republican of course.

In the course of working through budget cuts each state has to do, she wants to kill a program that feeds undernourished kids during the summer.

Her primary problem is feeding kids 16 and older, since, you know, they can go find summer jobs at McDonalds that will also feed them lunch.

First off, I don't think there are enough McJobs to feed all those kids...in a good economy.

Secondly, Missouri has the 19th highest unemployment rate in the country at 9 percent. Even the McJobs that existed last year aren't there for summer workers anymore.

Third, and actually this would be first if she wasn't a "compassionate" conservative, YOU DON'T MAKE JOKES ABOUT WANTING TO STARVE CHILDREN!

Barack Obama, Father-in-Chief

By John on June 21, 2009 7:54 AM | No Comments

Hey conservatives, I've got your family values right here.

While Bush had the Girls Gone Wild twins, and suggestions that he was having an affair with Condoleeza Rice, you were running around as a party suggesting that Republicans had the high road on morality.

This while Mark Foley was trying to sleep with teenage boys. While David Vitter was frequenting hookers. While Vito Fossella from Long Island had two families. While Larry Craig was slumming for a blow job in an airport bathroom.

And for sure the Dems have Clinton, Edwards, McGreevey, et al, but the Democratic Party isn't advertising itself as somehow morally superior to anyone else.

And most recently, of course, Nevada's John Ensign not only was having an affair with a staffer, he was paying off her, her husband, and their son while publicly calling on Craig to resign at the same time for cheating on his wife.

Hypocrisy.

But enough of this filthiness.

Today we have a president who loves his wife and loves his children. A man who speaks out on the values of good parenting - on being a good father.

This comes to mind for me as CBS's Sunday Morning gave an interview with the President on the subject of fatherhood. If they ever link the video I'll pass it along. Good stuff.

And now, time to go chase after Gabriel this morning. Happy Father's Day!

Ten Grand is Buried Here | Microsoft Australia (Prepared to be bribed)

By John on June 17, 2009 2:24 PM | No Comments

Apparently I just found out how much Firefox is worth to me.

Ten thousand Australian dollars.

Microsoft has put out some bizarre kind of search contest where you can "find" AU$10,000 on the internet. Go here if interested.

It won't let you use Firefox (and presumably not Opera or Chrome, etc.) to perform the search.

Granted, I don't have the spare time to play the game. Nor do I use IE for much more than some work sites I need to use it for.

However, I really don't see where Microsoft thinks it's viable strategy is to insult a rival's better product while trying to bribe tech savvy customers to come back to it's flawed product.

Not to mention that Microsoft search has always sucked (though the new stuff apparently is *pretty*).

GOP Wants Harsher Tone Toward Iran : NPR

By John on June 17, 2009 10:39 AM | No Comments
"When I see violence directed at peaceful protestors, when I see peaceful dissent being suppressed, wherever that takes place, it is of concern to me and it's of concern to the American people. That is not how governments should interact with their people... I do believe that something has happened in Iran where there is a questioning of the kinds of antagonistic postures towards the international community that have taken place in the past, and that there are people who want to see greater openness and greater debate and want to see greater democracy. How that plays out over the next several days and several weeks is something ultimately for the Iranian people to decide."

- President Obama, 6/16/2009 on the Iranian protests

Normally I'm with the say it prainly and clearly - and somewhat loudly - crowd. Obama is clearly of the "speak softly" crowd and is currently withholding the "big stick". This is an internal affair and since our history of messing with Iranian politics is pretty horrific, our prez is doing the right thing by standing by and pointing out that violence and repression are bad. Besides, the guy at the top and his cronies will still be in charge no matter who gets to be president there; and those cats have never liked us.

Meanwhile the GOP are running around like idiots and screaming for Obama to condemn the election as a sham and, presumably, send in Force Recon to back the protestors.

The Iranians already see anything we are doing as meddling. Why antagonize them further?

"A state television channel in Iran says the government summoned the Swiss ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in Iran, to complain about American interference. The two countries broke off diplomatic relations after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. An English-language state-run channel quoted the government as calling Western interference 'intolerable.'"

One, even if the opposition is seen to win last week's election, they are STILL more conservative than even the current whack job crowd of conservatives we have. Two, where the fuck was the GOP where Bush stole two elections in THIS country? Their hypocrisy stinks to high heaven.

Even the media is missing the friggin point, as this short-sighted article clearly shows.

Look, just because eight years of Bush taught us that knee jerk emotional reactions were the approved policy response doesn't mean Bush and Co. were ever RIGHT in their overreactions to situations. Quite the contrary, in fact.

"(Obama) should speak out that this is a corrupt, flawed sham of an election and that the Iranian people have been deprived of their rights."

- McCain, over-reacting as usual

Some are billing this as Obama v. McCain 2. If so, Obama still wins on both points and correctness.

As a segue, this article points out how much worse we would be if John Sidney McCain III was nominally in charge these days.

The core point is this however: we have no dogs in this fight and no real reason to jump in other than to express an interest in the will of the people prevailing without much violence. Yep, that's it.

Besides, weren't the neocons actually pulling FOR Ahmadinejad?

The GOP is forgetting one important lesson from the Bible studies they supposed go to:

"A gentle answer turns away rage, but a harsh word stirs up anger."

- Proverbs 15:1

Letterman Saves America

Something occurred to me just now.

Since Letterman inadvertently started up his feud with Sarah Palin, not one right wing terrorist has shot up a church or tried to perform a mass killing at a Holocaust museum or gay theatre or abortion clinic or NAACP or LULAC affair.

This means that the Palinites have stayed in their mom's basements writing hate mail to CBS rather than assassinating Americans they don't agree with. As long as they still have tissues to clean themselves off with while staring at their Miss Wasilla bathing suit posters, America is safe.

Somebody give this guy a medal.

Ensign acknowledges extramarital affair - Las Vegas Sun

By John on June 16, 2009 4:51 PM | No Comments

Ultra-tanned scumbag (and, regretably, our Senator) John Ensign admitted today that he had an affair with a married staff member last year.

Presumably, this now makes him the GOP "Family Values" frontrunner for 2012. Seriously, do they ALL run under a combination of 1984 and some random Ayn Rand wet dream?

In any case, I'm sure this doesn't really change my impression of it as that was pretty low to begin with, and I am equally sure he will learn no humility and try to blame this on the President somehow as that's all Republicans know how to do these days.

Either way, a filthy piece of crap stays just as dirty today.

Listening to women's voices

By John on June 16, 2009 4:15 PM | No Comments

I've noticed some real good advice and some real honest opinions from women in the media lately.

On Rachel Maddow awhile back, she interviewed Jennifer Boulanger, Executive Director for the Allentown, PA Women's Center, who gave some chilling descriptions of the "compassionate conservative" scumbags who assault her staff, her clinic's patients, and herself. Even if you do not approve of abortion (and, really, who does?), I would like to think you'd be appalled at the level of hate so-called Christians have on this issue.

Watch the segment here:

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

On the same subject is Rozalyn Farmer Love, a third year medical student who plans to practice in women's health. She explains how and why she came to the conclusion that should she be confronted to have to perform an abortion, she will do her job. Yes, she grew up in a religious family, but dogma will not overcome he need to act in her patient's best interests. It is a pretty powerful read from someone about to be thrown into the front lines of a very touchy subject.

Lastly, some VERY no-nonsense economic advise from 93-year old Dr. Anna Schwartz. This was a delight to listen to, even though it was harsh medicine to swallow.

We need to stop listening to the misogynists in the GOP who hate women except when they can use a random beauty pageant winner as a prop to spread hate and fear and actually listen to the female voices in our society.

Equipment-wise, they link to an article on how to properly season a cast iron grill. Also, articles on the bare minimum of utensils you need, as well as a list of tools for the best kitchen.

That said, the last list there tends to imply you can skimp on the pots and pans. Honestly, mostly through our wedding presents and by checking sales, we've collected a decent set of All-Clad pots and pans and could not be more pleased with the results. Yes, some of this stuff *does* cost money, but when you get the right stuff, it is so worth it.

Sure, I could have just knocked out re-editing all those hundreds of entries, but where to find the time? Answer? There never was any time.

So, I finally did it. A few every odd day or so, plus a concentrated push during lunch breaks and conference calls over the past couple weeks and I finally knocked out the edits. It wasn't hard, just time consuming. So they are back and searchable. Dead links and bad grammar untouched of course as I don't do revisionist history unless I really, really screwed up and need to make amends and give a mea culpa.

Amid Ignorance And Fear, Anti-Semitism Thrives : NPR

By John on June 16, 2009 9:16 AM | No Comments

I heard this when running Mono to the groomer on Saturday. Basically, Scott Simon calls out what our media talking heads and politicians refuse to mention: namely, that we still have a LOT of very angry racists in this country.

Paul Krugman momentarily makes sense and discusses the same problem and takes it a step further: calling out the conservatives for fueling said angry terrorism.

Frank Rich follows in a similar vein.

NPR takes a look at the issue, as does Alternet and Media Matters.

The problem, however, is that you can look at it all you want, but until something is done about this brand of hate, nothing will change. I know the President wants to hear all sides, and that the media slows to a crawl without showing debate shows, but some voices are just plain wrong.

Killing someone you don't agree with in a house of worship has been wrong in just about every culture.

Assassination as a debate strategy is wrong.

Racism, for whatever reason, but particularly as a motivation to kill, is wrong.

Why do THESE asshats get to have a say? Why do we condone this kind of thinking? Because we do. Every time you do not round up these pricks and imprison them for being treasonous anti-Americans, you are quietly endorsing them. Every time some Bill O'Reilly or Hannity or Limbaugh or Savage-type cretin lets these people on their shows or doesn't call them out, they feel supported. Every one of these animals who got positive reinforcement from a Sarah Palin rally thinks that they hate they believe in is okay.

And yes, it is the GOP giving the most aid and comfort to these terrorists, but many a spineless Democrat is just as guilty.

Call hate what it is, tell those who believe it that THEY are WRONG, and you get us further down the road to that "more perfect union" we should be striving for.

Asia Times Online :: The Meaning of Tehran Spring

By John on June 15, 2009 4:48 PM | No Comments

Even though CNN has ignored it, there is a viable political protest going on in Iran. The people there are protesting what increasingly seems to be a flawed and rigged election. The will of the people has definitely not been listened to.

Aside from the violence, wouldn't it have been great to see Americans protest a stolen election? You know, perhaps in 2000 or 2004? Just saying. The Iranians had a FIVE MILE LONG protest march through Tehran today. We sat on our asses and let Bush steal two elections.

And you wonder why the world laughs at us.

The first part of today's Here and Now covers the protests. The BBC has, as usual, provided excellent coverage.

The Boston Globe uses images to tell the story.

As does Time Magazine.

Time also addressed the argument for why the vote was rigged.

News is increasingly being more and more censored in Iraq. The BBC complains that it's Persian service is being jammed and cell signals are pretty much a no-no. What internet that remains is being utilized by various Twitter feeds. Here is one and Andrew Sullivan has a list of others.

The irony here is that even an alternative to Ahmedinejad would still be anti-West and fairly conservative. There is no liberal democratic movement on the ballot. That said, even given a choice, the people's voice should be respected.

And to think we could have voted for a small-minded man whose only regional policy was "Bomb, Bomb, Iran".

altmuslim - Terrorism: The unequal treatment of two religiously motivated crimes

By John on June 15, 2009 4:34 PM | No Comments

A psychotic white right winger violates the sanctity of a church and kills a doctor.

A hardcore black Muslim convert shoots at two recruiters and kills one.

Only one of them gets charged with terrorism. If you guessed the black Muslim, you'd be correct.

I'm not saying the recruiter shooter shouldn't have the book thrown at him - he should - but so should the assassin who actually knew the name of his target.

Read this for more on the injustice between the two scumbags.

I imagine Old van Brunn the Nazi Lover will be treated with kid gloves too, even though he, too, is another right wing terrorist. You know, because of the color of his skin.

It may not be overt racism, but it IS there. And it is playing out - once again - in courtrooms across America.

Clintonite Politics Redux

By John on June 15, 2009 11:43 AM | No Comments

I know it has been about a year and your memory might be fuzzy on this, but we had immense delight this weekend watching Hillary Clinton get rolled out in front of the media to comment on the Iranian elections.

To listen to her have to remark on things like "respecting the will of the people" and to let "the voters decide" just made me laugh. Hell, I probably actually chortled. I mean, a year ago, this lady was officially out of the running for the Democratic nomination and was insisting on not conceding until the superdelegates could pull a backdoor stunt to give the brass ring to her. Or, as she so delicately stated, until someone assassinated Barack Obama.

Here, take a look:

In another fun bit of Clintonian failure, vulgar Clinton Mouthpiece Terry McAuliffe lost his carpetbagger stunt at being the Democratic nominee for the governor's race in Virginia.

Let us hope that this streak continues and the Clintons and their followers are continually forced to a) eat their words, and b) fail when trying to gain leadership roles in this nation. Their advise is of use and they do not require constant shunning, but their brand of self-serving "leadership" is something we need to move on from.

U.S. Neocons Favor Ahmadinejad in Iranian Election

By John on June 14, 2009 2:54 PM | No Comments

Just to be against the voices of moderation and change (even by Iranian approved standards) the Rethugs were in favor of Ahmadinejad winning the election.

Granted, the apparently thievery of the vote in his name now makes him the illegitimate bastard brother of Bush, but the irony of that seems to be lost on both Mahmoud and the neocons as well.

So, in a nutshell, the hardcore conservatives are in favor of a guy who wants to wipe Israel off the map, and they still claim the guy who shot up the Holocaust museum isn't one of their's?

Morons.

More hate in Arizona: Volunteer-Humanitarian Convicted of Littering while "Trying to Save Lives"

By John on June 14, 2009 12:22 PM | No Comments

Following on the Minuteman terrorist story I just posted comes this story of a decent human being who has been charged with littering for leaving water in the desert for illegal aliens crossing - let me say it again - THE DESERT!

Fish and Wildlife Service officers confiscated the water as, you know, it's the compassionate conservative thing to do.

Minuteman group arrested for murdering family

By John on June 14, 2009 12:06 PM | No Comments

You probably won't hear this on TV or read it in the news, but apparently we've had a THIRD incident of conservative terrorism.

Shooting a doctor in church and trying to assassinate a crowd in the Holocaust museum wasn't enough for these guys.

Now, they've taken to race-based home invasion and murder. Three Minuteman terrorists staged a drug raid on a Latino family and rob them. But just for the hell of it, they decided to execute them, presumably for the color of their skin. This included shooting an eight year old girl.

The mother of the family survived and called the police. Bonus vengeance: she found a gun and shot one of the attackers when they returned to check that everyone was dead. Bonus bonus: she shot the one named Bush. Just saying.

Here is an actual news article on this. The local racists originally thought this was a race-on-race attack. Because, you know, all Mexicans are murderers.

Way to abuse the Internet

By John on June 13, 2009 12:18 PM | No Comments

They say the Republican Party has to embrace the web to maintain traction in this current political environment.

Personally, I think they'd be better off trying to cull the racists, bigots, terrorists and loudmouth drug addict sex fiend radio shitheels in their midst. But that's just me.

As for the whole "we know Web 2.0" thing? They have a lot to learn.

Last year, for some reason, I started getting email from Jim Inhofe. You know, the anti-climate change racist asswipe. I don't know how I got on his list. Presumably they trolled a list of any email account that ever sent a message from Oklahoma and spammed it. I mean, I haven't lived there since 2003, never voted for the asshole or his ilk, and I have never been a member of the GOP, KKK, or NRA.

It was mildly entertaining to read his detached from reality BS during the election, until the rise of the Palinites and Inhofe's willingness to join their racist sedition bandwagon. I unsubscribed and was the better for doing so.

Until this week. Mary Fallin, another OK Rethug cretin, is running for governor. And suddenly I'm getting email from her.

Yeah, these spam artists have a lot to learn about properly using technology for something other than to blow up brown people and assassinate people in churches and Holocaust museums.

It won't help you today, but for nothing more than historical reference, a guide to the digital changeover.

If nothing else, it is a passing of an age for a lot of us. I was about ten or eleven when we got some form of cable and was pretty adapt in the manipulation of rabbit ears and whatever else you needed to get a signal. Living in Galva and being cable-less was always a trick, especially since our nearest signals were over 40 miles away - in opposite directions. You could get two NBCs and ABCs - or none at all.

Just a couple weeks ago we lost the cable for the better part of a day and whipped out the rabbit ears. Now, we won't have the option unless we go buy one of the new boxes I guess.

And so this passes, along with rotary phones, playing in the streets until dark without fear of pedophile rapists, and high beams you click on with your feet.

I guess I'm getting old or something.

Why I don't pay for the local Vegas paper

By John on June 10, 2009 5:06 PM | No Comments

First off, I love newspapers. I even read the rural conservative ones we got in Illinois just to get the local news.

However, the piece of crap we are stuck with here in Las Vegas, the Review-Journal is a hate-filled, ultra-conservative piece of dogshit. And that's me being polite about it.

Today's opinion pages had this insult to intelligence bashing the TARP plan. Look, there are a lot of reasons not to like bailing out corrupt bankers, but none of the ones in this editorial applies. In fact, it seems to have been written by a fifth grade kid stuck in a Republican household trying to impress his Klan daddy.

What's worse is when they borrow syndicated info from folks like the psycho/idiot goons at the Reverend Moon's Washington Times. The RJ wasn't even brave enough to link this on their own site so I had to go find it. Whoever this Diana West is, she appears to be a vile, dirty piece of excrement, at least according to this commentary. And as filthy as she is, she's even prouder of the Time's Frank Gaffney who delight in mischaracterizing our president as some low-rent al-Qaeda wannabe.

These animals should be glad that progressives and liberals are not as fearful and hateful as they are. Otherwise they'd probably already be renditioned and treated to some of the lovely torture they get all wet and hard for.

Republican Hero: James von Brunn (Right Wing Terrorist of the Week)

By John on June 10, 2009 4:19 PM | No Comments

Last week we were subjected to a Rethug terrorist who assassinated a doctor. In church.

This week, we are confronted with a Racist Republican who stormed the Holocaust Museum in DC and wanted to kill as many as he could but was shot by a guard, who later died. James von Brunn is this asshat's name, and he has a history of hate. Talking Points Memo has some more at their right wing extremism section, as does HuffPo.

Once again, Republicans who can't win at the ballot box (even by cheating) believe they HAVE to control the conversation. So instead of trying to make winning arguments and policies, they resort to killing those who don't agree with them. More to the point, killing those they HATE.

Honestly, if my choice in an election was a bag of dog crap and a Republican, I'd vote for the poop.

Parents Pulling the Plugs on Williamsburg Trust-Funders - NYTimes.com

By John on June 8, 2009 2:59 PM | No Comments

Oh look!

Yet ANOTHER! New York Times article on how we're supposed to feel bad for all those poor widdle trust fund babies who are suddenly being cut off by their newly broke parents.

And gasp! Some of them have to WORK! A whole EIGHT HOURS A WEEK!

THE HORROR!

I am getting really damned tired of these stories on the rich suddenly having to face reality. I know I shouldn't even link you to them, but dear lord these are just awful, awful people. They should be lined up so we can laugh at them and mock them.

To date, none of the stories I've linked describe people who give anything of value to our society. Maybe "roughing it" will aid in doing so. Otherwise, what benefit does it provide to try to elicit pity from us? It obviously doesn't work for me, and I can't imagine a lot of folks it would get a tear from.

Grand Old Terrorists

"When left-wing extremists burn down a ski lodge or free lab animals, they're called eco-terrorists and they're investigated and prosecuted under terrorism laws. When a right-wing extremist kills a doctor, he's charged with murder."

- Reddit comment on Scott Roeder only being charged for murder

I find it bizarre that you can perform an assassination in this country and only be up for murder charges. That is, only if you are doing the bidding of the Talibangelical terrorists. Call this what it is: terrorism, and go after the people that motivate, fund, and support these freaks.

This crap doesn't belong in America and the less Roeders and McVeighs we have in this country, the better off we'll all be.

Meanwhile, a lawyer in Philly cheers on a mob of vigilantes who beat up a guy accused of rape. Oh, yes, they beat up the wrong guy. I heard this at lunch and was sickened to see this crap.

Look, 24 is a pornographic torture lovers show. It is FICTION. And hey, I enjoyed watching Boondock Saints but I'm pretty sure I'd move out from anywhere that used it as a basis for a justice system.

I don't get conservatives and their hatred of due process, of their need to torture and kill regardless of the facts. And they have the balls to call themselves patriots? Maybe if they stop using the Constitution as asswipe and read their bibles instead of using it as a coffee table prop, they'd realize how wrong they are.

Land deals in Africa and Asia: Cornering foreign fields | The Economist

By John on June 8, 2009 2:20 PM | No Comments

I read this alarming story on how the Chinese and some Arab nations are buying up farm land in the poorest nations on Earth.

Aside from the obvious abuses of the land (I refer you to any farm bought out by an ag giant here in the US), you are looking at foreign government control of another sovereign nations resources. It kills innovation and crop diversity outright. Basically, if the US bought the Amazon to be clear-cut for wood paneling the world would be justifiably pissed off. This isn't much different than that.

Officials: Bin Laden Running Out Of Space To Hide : NPR

By John on June 5, 2009 5:11 PM | No Comments

Here is one of those "here's hoping" stories.

Personally, I think it is way too optimistic to think we can just bag bin Laden. The terrain is pretty rough by all accounts and not having any assets on the ground make it really tough. You know, it's exactly how he escaped the last time when Bush pulled our troops back. Now we don't even have soldiers on the hunt to pull back.

Also, the guy has been hiding for years. Killing him outright either makes him martyr or has no real effect anyway. This isn't a cartoon. Yeah, it would be nice to have him dead or on trial in some Pennsylvania courtroom, but I don't think it's going to fix any of the problems we have in the region.

Bay Buchanan: After Assaulting Black Woman, Calling Her 'Nigger,' Epstein Was 'Lynched' | TPMDC

By John on June 5, 2009 4:51 PM | No Comments

Those Buchanan kids weren't spanked enough as children.

Plus, their copies of Mein Kampf should have been burned. I don't care that Hitler autographed them personally.

Bay Buchanan has the nerve to say that her employee (I think I recently said it was her brother Pat's worker) is being lynched by the media.

Why would she use these words? Because the guy she hired - and keeps employing - was the asshat who assaulted a black woman and called her the N-word. You know, what in most places constitutes a borderline hate crime at best.

But being a conservative means that you're the victim, regardless of the fact that you a) are the aggressor, b) probably have the power, and c) oh yeah, you COMMITTED A FUCKING CRIME!

And you wonder how these idiots get any votes in elections at all.

Sotomayor and the Republicans

By John on June 2, 2009 1:45 PM | No Comments

Robert Reich weighs in on the topic of Rethug vitriol against Judge Sonia Sotomayor. They've gone to the standard plan of letting Limbaugh, O'Reilly et al speak the racist BS while the elected types go "aw shucks, them guys" and pretend to focus on issues.

So far, no one has really called them on it. Hell, Mitch McConell doesn't even pretend to speak out against the bigoted statements.

Ignoring it doesn't make it go away. They've attacked her for "having feelings", re: being a woman. As mentioned in another post, Traitor Liddy had some VERY chauvinistic things to say about her.

Aside from calling Spanish "illegal alien", the GOP has also gone out of it's way to label Sotomayor a racist. What is telling is that since they are damn near ALL saying it, doesn't that kind of make them the racists? Or is calling her "Sonia from the block" not a racist statement.

Among the racist fearmongers are Liddy (see above link), Tom Tancredo, and Limbaugh and Beck and their ilk. Trust me, it isn't hard to find links to this.

And while trying to pin a racist label on a federal judge, one of Tancredo's aides (who also worked for Pat Buchanan) confessed to accosting an American-American woman on the street, karate chopping at her head and calling her the N-word. And he has not been fired from Tancredo's employ.

Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.

But they aren't the racists. Right.

I read this article awhile back and was actually dumbfounded by the idea. Apparently, a substantial amount of conservatives think Stephen Colbert's character is for real.

Granted, I have my issues with the show. I think it toes the line into even pretend angry bigoted too often and too close to be real. Also, it isn't all that funny overall. That said, I'm still pretty convinced he's play acting. Don't take my word for it, here's an interview Colbert recently did with the Los Angeles Times.

Why do...Republicans Hate Women?

By John on June 2, 2009 10:46 AM | No Comments

Women legislators are a severe minority in the Republican Party. Enough to warrant special attention.

I mean, it's pretty obvious why given their policies, but it is still quite alarming. You expect this stuff from a Third World nation, just not here. Hell, even Pakistan has had a female leader, but we have a party actively against the rights of women recently hold all the levers of power in the United States.

Case in point: in Rethug Texas, if you are a woman who is raped and work with the police to prosecute your assailant, they will charge you for your rape kit. The implied message is "rape is okay, don't raise a stink". A similar charge was exacted in Palin's Alaska.

The point was really drove home recently when Rethug Hero (and Felon) G. Gordon Liddy launched a race and gender-based attack on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor which included the following statement:

"Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when she's menstruating or something."

Stay classy GOP.

Why do...Republicans Love Drug Dealers?

By John on June 2, 2009 10:24 AM | No Comments

A couple weeks ago, I read this article on how some miscreants are illegally planting marijuana in our national parks and forests. It seems they take joy in abusing our public lands for illicit gains.

And now the GOP slid in an amendment to the recent credit card bill (which passed) that allows you to bring firearms into national parks. First, some actual concerns. Next, I imagine that come next year there will be a rash of drunken hillbilly Rethugs shooting up fellow campers. And not a damn thing will be done about it.

But what about future implications? Now, illegal pot growers can LEGALLY set up spots to shoot at anyone who might "threaten" them. Sure, that's not the intent of the law, but it's a very short logical leap to that conclusion.

What the real concern is that all these Quislings probably pushed the law so that they can set up some kind of fundamentalist, racist redoubts in our national parks so they can run from the "socialist" government they hate and fear so much.

Basically, today the GOP unwittingly support drug dealers. Tomorrow, they set up their hate-filled theocracy in the Smokies.

To be fair, here is one outdoorsman who thinks this is an incredibly stupid idea.

Plus, some actual details concerning the new law.

Olbermann: Fox News Complicit In George Tiller's Death

By John on June 2, 2009 9:24 AM | No Comments

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

I have a couple problems here. One is obvious. How can you be "pro-life" while resorting to assassination as an argument tactic? And yes, some folks are justifiably calling it fundamentalist terrorism. So, really, how do you reconcile the belief system to the behavior?

More important to me, even in my current "spiritual without particular religion" phase, is the concept of holy ground. Sanctuary. Gangs respect it (for the most part). The Families swear by it. Even the KGB respected the tradition. Why don't Talibangelicals? Last year, that one asshat shot up a church in Tennessee to kill some token Democrats. Now, a doctor gets shot in church.

Not *near* the church. Not pacing outside the church deciding whether or not he could enter. He was *in* church. As an usher in said church. An active participant in the worship of God.

But these so-called "compassionate conservatives" think it is okay to enter a church with a gun and assassinate someone. And why not? They want you to have guns in national parks. They want you to pack heat in school. Why WOULDN'T they agree to execution by the pipe organ?

These twits do not respect any opinions that aren't on par with their own narrow minded view. Zealots. Racists. Bigots. Assassins. Terrorists.

When will someone tell these fools that this is not religion. It is only hate. It sure won't be FauxNews. Here's their opinions on these matters:

More on this filthbucket O'Reilly and his friends here, , < href="http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200906010025" target="_blank">and here.

Another doctor dares to call this terrorism.

And Rethug Goon Randall Terry says we shouldn't over-react in placing the blame where it belongs. Namely, with people like him.

So yeah, I'll be more on the lookout for places that air FauxNews and to avoid giving them any business. If you want to air hate, you don't need my money. Probably racists anyway.
