Dirty tricks club

Food for thought before the election:

“I think they’re in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency.”
- Dick Cheney, CNN, June 20, 2005

You've probably already heard about the race-baiting ad in Tennessee. Newsweek covers Harold Ford, Jr. in a better light than Republicans ever will, and discusses what Democrats may do if they succeed in recapturing both houses of Congress.

Ford, while not your most liberal of Democrats, does have a religious angle that may serve as a template for those Dems who believe but don't necessarily wear their religion on their sleeves. And the timing couldn't be better as evangelicals are wavering in their lockstep support for Bush and his ilk.

Meanwhile, Doonesbury lampoons the Republicans latest attempt at scaring people into voting Republican.

News flash: Bush says he isn't about "staying the course" in Iraq. Oh, really?

The U.S. Institute of Peace warns of grim outcomes to our war in Iraq. Fareed Zakaria discusses how we should be responding to the mess in Iraq, instead of how Bush is.

Telling information from our veterans, as polled by VoteVets.org. The public agrees that more needs done than Bush's bloviating, by very high percentages.

DailyKos carries some data by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), whom we've covered in the past. It shows the grades of Dems and Repugnican'ts in their support of our troops. At the IAVA site are the ranks by state and the legislation used as criteria. Thankfully my Democratic representation has done very well. Check to see how your's did, and throw out the Republicans that only say they support the troops and never follow through.

Case in point? John Boehner of Ohio, who says Rumsfeld is doing a marvelous job. Is that like doing a "heck-of-a-job"?

And Cheney swears that the terrorists are trying to influence the election. As if that's worse than his lying and fear-mongering. At least the terrorists fess up to the blood they shed. Cheney merely washes his hands of it and blames someone else.

Twisting words

"You and I are told we must choose between a left or right, but I suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down. Up to man's age-old dream-the maximum of individual freedom consistent with order or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path."

- Ronald "Apocalypse" Reagan, in his famous Goldwater speech

Don't worry, I'm not turning into some Reaganite. I just thought it was funny that 666's words could be twisted against the Bush administration. And yeah, you have to squint a little to do that.

For God's sake, leave the rest of the speech alone. I linked it for fairness' sake but it's just a catalogue of whining, bitter conservative BS best left to the ashheap of history.

Late night laundry run

| | Comments (0)

It's coming on 5 am here in Puerto Rico after a day that started around 8:30 am. I've worked insane hours and have already extended my trip once, will have to do it again tomorrow. Am doing a load of laundry as the hotel system is down and they can't rebook me a room just yet.

You'd think I'd be out on the town having fun. You'd be dead wrong. I went out once for fast food chicken and some blank CDs, and another time to get away long enough to get a soda. Since Sunday.

Yeah, bummer.

Good news is I have to leave to go to another town tomorrow. To do all this server build fun again. Meh.

Anywho, some things I've noticed about our repugnant political masters and their lackeys this week. Basically, a quick hit list of Republican repression.

First off, apparently gay Republicans are getting scarce on the political landscape. That's what joining up with intolerant bigots will get you.

But hey, they still have time to be racist. Californians who are Latino immigrants are receiving mailers warning them that they'll be arrested if they vote. Yes, we're talking about scaring away American citizens to help a Republican win.

John McCain, losing more dignity every day, says he's kill himself if the Democrats take control of the Senate. Still trying to convince me he's an independent man of the people? Save your breath.

Last of all is heineous fiend Rush Limbaugh, who argues that there is no such thing as an abortion done to save the life of the mother. Real compassionate conservatism on display for ya.

I'll be busy the rest of the week as I have been so far but I wanted to blow off some steam. Have a good one.

I call shenanigans

As gas prices fall, people are turning back to the GOP. Hopefully recent news will change those fickle, idiotic attitudes.

As for the Mark Foley thing, here's a list of false Republican talking points and how they have been debunked. Kudos to Rahm Emmanuel for stepping up and to Bob Schieffer for knowing when to laugh at stupidity.

Some poll numbers the Bushites can't be happy with.

The shrill voice of McCain rises up again, first blaming the Clinton administration for the North Korea situation, then bleats that people shouldn't point fingers.

As the latter article states, the following is informative:

Bush I: 1-2 bombs worth of plutonium
Clinton: Zero plutonium
Bush II: 10-11 bombs worth of plutonium and counting, first nuclear test

Then again, Bush has been quoted as saying, "Why should I care about North Korea?"

Minuteman leader Jim Gilchrist can intimidate Mexican immigrants all day long, but he can't handle a phone interview. Go figure.

Bill Frist suggests that the Taliban should be incorporated into the Afghan government. A couple things on that. 1. You KNOW if a Democrat said something like that, they'd be hung out to dry by the administration and media. 2. Doesn't Frist know that we invaded Afghanistan to take the Taliban OUT of power? Seriously, with so much appeasement in attitude and draft dodgers in their ranks, how does the GOP sell itself as hardline foreign policy folk? I don't get it.

Republicans have rolled over $20 million earmarked to celebrate victory in Iraq. Oops! Maybe next year, huh? Or maybe you spend that cash on VA hospitals and gear for the boys and girls overseas instead. Can't get any political traction out of that though....

Bush considers Iraq to be "just a comma" in the scope of world history. This may - eventually - be true, but quit pandering to your evangelical sheep and insulting our troops in the meantime.

Evangelicals are getting turned off by the GOP. After covering up for pedophiles, lying about the war, conspiring with oil-drilling corporate maggots and evil sheiks, there's good reason. Then, of course, is the revelation (for some) that Bush and Co. don't take them seriously, call them names, and generally take them for granted.

And one Republican puts it, it's time to switch teams.

Numbers

"And I applaud the Iraqis for their courage in the face of violence. I am, you know, amazed that this is a society which so wants to be free that they’re willing to — you know, that there’s a level of violence that they tolerate."

- Bush, clueless as usual

Just in case you are keeping track:

- U.S. Military to remain in Iraq at current levels until at least: 2010

- Number of Iraqis who have fled their country since our invasion: 890,000

- Number of Iraqis that have likely died since the invasion: over 600,000 (Bushites dispute this, saying "only" 50,000 have died; as if that's better somehow)

- Percentage of Iraqis who want us out in a year: 71%

- Percentage who want us out immediately: 65%

- In case you forgot, percentage of troops who wanted out of Iraq by year's end: 72%

- Number of American soldiers killed in Iraq as of this posting: 2,754

This is where I cross the line

Okay, so I was at lunch today and saw a building on fire in New York after a plane ran into it.

For a second I was wondering where we were invading next. Then I got back to work and saw that it was a wayward accidental plane wreck. Unfortunate, but not terrorist oriented.

Or was it? (Condolences and apologies to the Lidle family for me using their situation for ill allegory.)

Now everyone knows that I am not, have never been, nor ever will be a Yankees fan. I had utter glee last week watching the Tigers take them out of the postseason. But let's evaluate something.

Steinbrenner has a "win at all costs" attitude. $200 million can't even get the Yanks past the first round anymore. Trades were coming down the pipe. The Mets are still playing ball and all of New York can see that.

Can you think of any other less egalitarian team in America? Or one that cries harder when it doesn't get it's way? That is the example of what is bad about modern professional sports?

Running a plane into a building? Not expressing American values? I chalk up the Yankees up as a terrorist organization.

While we're talking about anti-American terrorist sports, let us bring up NASCAR. At Talladega this past weekend there was uproar over the amount of Confederate battle flags flying over the infield.

Look, NASCAR has Southerners as fans. Lots of Southerners think the Civil War isn't over. It is there last heyday and they cling to it. Yeah, many of them are racist. Some, however, are just frigging idiots. So I say let them argue that it is not a racist symbol; that it is part of their cultural legacy.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement.

Do you wanna know why?

Here ya go: celebrating a successionist battle flag is proof that you are a traitor. And treason is akin to terrorism and punishable by death. So yeah, let's grab all these inbred, red-state, racist pieces of crap, round them up for treason and ship their collective asses to Guantanamo to await judgement - which will be whenever we get around to it.

Take the smug, New York, utlra-rich elites and the broke, Bush-voting terror advocates and traitors and leave the rest of America to sanely discuss our differences.

It couldn't hurt.

Grand Old Pedos

| | Comments (0)

In a recent NYT/CBS poll, ,a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/10/09/opinion/polls/main2074116.shtml" target="_blank">seventy-nine percent of respondents said that the GOP was more interested in protecting their pedos than in protecting children.

Now that's not to say the Democrats have never had unsavory representatives, but there's a big difference between screwing an intern, cheating the Post Office, and nepotism, for instance, and flatout perverted child predator crap. There's also a big difference between screaming you are the "moral values" party and then looking the other way when a Congressman tries to molest kids. And if people still vote Republican and give me that moral superiority BS, they deserve every bitch slap I feel the need to deliver.

Time and Newsweek both declare this episode the beginning of the end of GOP dominance. I think that's premature - have you seen you votes Republican? hypocrites, racists, and wife beaters - but I'm more than happy to help build the meme.

James Dobson jumps in and insists that this is a "prank" by some wayward pages. Look, Mr. Everyone-is-going-to-Hell-but-me, kids getting sexual advances from an adult is NEVER a prank you sanctimonius piece of shit.

Yeah, I'm more than a bit miffed at this. You know what? You should be too.

Here, meet some Republican voters. Alaskan villagers are rejecting free Venezuelan oil in the face of a harsh winter because Chavez called Bush the devil a couple weeks ago. Look, I was conflicted for a moment when I say that too. Then I realized we HAD a chance to deal with our boogeyman and all the morons RE-ELECTED Bush. This gives Chavez and anyone else a crack at insulting Bush boy since we collectively blew it. In any case, the same villagers now face global warming issues as there ice packs disappear. So wait. You live near oil fields but the government can't get you fuel. You deny global warming but watch the sea reclaim where you once lived. Yeah, sounds like a typical Republican.

So, as you may know, Florida Congressman Mark Foley resigned from the House after it was discovered he was trying to seduce teenage boys.

Oh wait, did I say this was just being discovered? No, the GOP has known about this for at least three years. Maybe even six years ago.

Is the GOP worried about kids? Are they up in arms about the violation of their twisted version of so-called "family values," particularly by one of their own? No.

And nary a peep from the Falwells, Robertsons, Bennetts, Santorums, Ashcrofts and other such ilk. No surprise to me but some of you might want to take note of that.

And in pure denial form, apparently despite being a staunch Republican, Foley is now being labelled a Democrat. Because, you know, no Republican can apparently be a known pedophile to these hypocrites. Don't believe me? The O'Reilly Factor changed Foley's party affiliation. More proof that FAUXNews is just another tool of the GOP.

And so, is it the pedophiles fault he's such a piece of crap? Hell no! Not OUR fellow Repugnantcan't says the Grand Old Pedos.

It's an election plot by the Democrats, scream some.

It's the insidious gays, scream the core conservative hatemongers. News flash. Being gay has nothing to do with being a frigging pervert pedophile who wants to bang young children. Just thought you evil pseudo-Christians might want to learn the distinction finally. Hell, even John Walsh agrees and he never came off as a progressive mind to me.

Must be a hell of a week to be a gay Republican. How far do those thirty pieces of silver spend, anyway?

The real insidious bastard in all this? Rush Limbaugh. He actually blames the kids for seducing the former Congressman to send them sexually explicit messages and sexual advances. Sick.

Runner up to Bush for not even mentioning the issue.

By the way, since Foley quit/was told to quit last week, he can't be punished by Congress. Nice move Republicans.
